Girls Bowling: Fremd Sectional Preview

Lots of teams in contention for a state berth in this sectional.

Where: Arlington Lanes, Arlington Heights.

Favorites: Hoffman Estates, Resurrection, Lake Park, Schaumburg. Hoffman Estates has picked it back up recently after a few week struggle and is a perennial state qualifier. Resurrection advanced to state last year and returns many of its starters from last year. Lake Park is a very young team that has exceeded expectations this year. Schaumburg hasn’t had as much success in tournaments this year, but still has the talent to put together a big week.

Qualifying contenders: Hersey, Leyden, St. Charles North, St. Charles East. All of these teams can shoot higher than the favorites if bowling their best. Hersey has one of the top bowlers in the state, while the other squads are fairly balanced.

Rest of the pack: New Trier, Taft, Fenton, Elk Grove. These teams will need big weeks and some help to advance.

Individuals to watch: Amanda Richae, Hoffman Estates; Alexis Orwat, Hoffman Estates; Allura Magsino, Hoffman Estates; Kylie Frick, Schaumburg; Gina Lenoci, Schamuburg; Sunny Bobnick, Schaumburg; Emma Wrenn, Hersey; Caroline Stiefbold, Hersey; Michelle Ellis, New Trier; Arie Upshaw, Prospect; Klaudia Tatkowska, Rolling Meadows; Mary Conneely, Maine West; Stephanie Zalinski, Regina; Victoria Odarczenko, Maine South; Allison Buck, Prospect; Stephanie Judkins, Fremd; Shania Carr, Lane; Zaria Syfu, Niles North; Chyna Wright, Evanston; Lauren Gawlinski, Resurrection; Sarah Beck, Resurrection; Peyton LaValley, Resurrection; Meredith Nowotarski, Resurrection; Caroline Escobedo, Leyden; Jena Korn, Bartlett; Molly Schmelter, Addison Trail; Emily Tornabene, Lake Park; Wilhemina Garner, Lake Park; Jennifer Connelly, Lake Park; Alyssa Byers, St. Charles North; Claire Sebastian, St. Charles North; Meagan Markovich, St. Charles East; Lorna Lopez, St. Charles East; Emma Vitallo, St. Charles East; Jamie Knutsen, Elk Grove.

Expectations: There might be four teams listed as favorites, but that doesn’t guarantee those will be the four to advance as it is a fairly tight field throughout. Hoffman was ranked for much of the year before a slide, but has the ability to shoot upper 5000s. Resurrection appears to be the top competitor for the title as the Bandits can put up some big numbers. Lake Park and Schaumburg are young teams that are more long shots to win the sectional, but have the young talent to do so. It seems like 5400 might be the cut line to advance. But if it is lower than that, that brings more teams in play and things could get very interesting.

Fearless prediction: 1. Hoffman Estates 2. Resurrection 3. Lake Park 4. Schaumburg 5. St. Charles East 6. Hersey 7. St. Charles North 8. Leyden 9. New Trier 10. Taft 11. Fenton 12. Elk Grove.

Hard to pick against Hoffman which always seems to show up in the postseason. Playing it safe with the top four, but could see both St. Charles squads and Hersey contending for a state berth as well.
